According to social scientists, there are many things lead to divorce. However, these things only increase the probability of divorce. Also, this depends on their commonalities that the couples share, the way their fight, their social status and their education.
Here 8 things increase the probability of divorce
1- The age of Getting married
Most cases of divorce happen when a person gets married before the age of 32 or during his teens. They say, the risk of divorce increases more for those who marry in their late 20s than those who marry in their mid-30s and late.
Professor Nicholas Wolfinger, a professor at the University of Utah, did a study for those who marry after the age of 32. He found that the risk of divorce increases 5% every year.
He commented at Institute for Family Studies, “For almost everyone, the late twenties seem to be the best time to tie the knot.”
Also, as published in a new study in 2015, the more the gap between spouses, the more the risk of divorce increases. They say that if the gap between the couples is 1 year, the risk of divorce increases up to 3%, and reaches 18% if the gap is 5 years.
So, the best time to get married is in your mid-30s when you feel ready to share your life with the person you love.
2- The degree of education
The National Longitudinal Survey of Youth in 1979, suggests, “The chance of divorce was lower for people with higher education, and about half of marriages of those who did not complete high school having ended in divorce compared with about 30 % of marriages of college graduates.”
The suggested reason id that those who don’t have high education, get low income which leads to a stressful life ended in divorce.
Professor Eli Finkel, a psychologist, says, “What I think is going on is it’s really difficult to have a productive, happy marriage when your life circumstances are so stressful and when your day-to-day life involves, say three or four bus routes in order to get to your job.”
3- Being not satisfied of your partner
Showing contempt for your partner is enough reason for ending the relationship. You must not see your partner as beneath you and you are better than him/her. Also, the prolonged criticism can turn the behavior of your partner into a worse one.
This is what John Gottman, a psychologist at the University of Washington and the founder of the Gottman Institute, said. He said that after 14 years of studying about 80 couples living across the US Midwest. He thinks that contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling are “the four horsemen of the apocalypse”
4- The daily stress
A recent study, published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, suggests, the everyday stress is one of the most common factors that lead to divorce in European couples.
Also, the prolonged stress lowers the chance of falling in love or being loved by others as the person becomes violent.
5- Thinking that you have a bad relationship
As happened in a study when the researchers asked the spouses to talk about their relationship. The partners were thinking of their relationship in a negative way and they seemed to attempt divorce, after analyzing their answers.
Thinking in a negative way leads to disappointment in the marriage and weakens the relationship.
