There are more elements in the periodic table in use than you know. A total of 118 elements are listed in the periodic table, and searches are on for new elements. Some man-made elements like are also added to it. But still, the more popular ones are known.
Things you know commonly
You know of gold, silver, and platinum for being used in jewelry. You know of iron and copper, aluminum and tin for use in metallurgy. You know you have oxygen, nitrogen, helium and neon gases in the air.
You also know that most of the living and non-living compounds on earth contain carbon.
You know these things because these are well into use, and much talked about. But there are many other elements which are seldom discussed, and yet they are into use in many things.
The uncommon elements you don’t know of
There are many elements which are uncommon by name, and you really don’t know what they are used for. But surprisingly man has been able to find almost all of the elements in the periodic table in some kind of use.
Many are used in nature involuntarily, as part of the system. Many are used by the man with planning and engineering.
You would be surprised to know that there are elements with name hafnium, yttrium, and samarium. Americium is an element used in smoke detectors. Cerium is an element used in lighter flints. Europium is another element which is used in the manufacture of televisions.
Hence, you can see there are so many elements which are used in many industries, commodities, and in many manufacturing units, and yet you don’t know much of it.
To facilitate the learning of the usage of the different elements Keith Enevoldsen, a designer from Seattle, designed a new periodic table. In this table, he only changed the position of the elements as per their frequency and type of use.
Along with that, he included the atomic number, name, and a small graphic associated with the element, for better identification and understanding. This new interactive periodic table reveals the use of many elements.
Elements which are not in use
Berkelium and Protactinium are the two elements which didn’t find any use yet. Man-made elements like Einsteinium also didn’t find any use yet for its short life. In this way, there are many elements which didn’t get used normally, and man didn’t find them useful yet in making things.
Hence many still wait to find a use, and this new periodic table can help understand this status.
