Since the beginning of the world, there has been many threats to human kind like pandemic diseases. Bird Flu could be pandemic. Ready to take lots of souls if we may say. Examples of other pandemic: plague and cholera.
What is Bird Flue ?
First of all let us have a brief information about bird flu virus. Bird flu, also called avian influenza, is a viral infection that can infect not only birds, but also humans and other animals.
Most forms of the virus are restricted to birds. H5N1 is the most common form of bird flu. It’s deadly to birds and can easily affect humans and other animals that come in contact with a carrier.
According to the World Health Organization, H5N1 was first discovered in humans in 1997 and has killed nearly 60 % of those infected. Currently, the virus isn’t known to spread via human-to-human contact.
Reason behind Bird flu
Still, experts worry that H5N1 may pose a risk of becoming a pandemic threat to humans. Its symptoms are: coughing, diarrhea, respiratory difficulties, fever, headaches, malaise, sore throat, muscle aches.
What causes Bird flu? Humans get infected with this virus if dealt directly to infected poultry, it is transmitted if humans be in contact with bird feces, nasal secretion or other secretions from mouth or eye.
Bird flu is not transmitted by eating infected poultry if properly cooked.
The researchers chose a strain of this avian influenza called (H7N9), and they tested a protein on the flu virus surface called H7 hemagglutinin that allows the virus to bind to host cells and infect them.
There are three mutations of Bird Flu
They found out that it takes three mutation in three amino acids found on the virus surface. To allow the virus become better in binding to cell receptors found on human cells.
Some people may hear such things and be frightened, they will say researchers have created pandemics in the labs and are causing terror. But researchers actually didn’t not apply this mutant to the virus itself.
They only applied it to a benign fragment of the virus for safety regulations. And they assured people and others that they didn’t created any viruses.
So appreciation and gratitude to all scientists, researchers and scholars who spent their whole life experimenting and discovering any findings that could protect humanity from any threat and always be a step ahead.
