Being aware of the type of medications you are taking is always good to keep you informed of what you are putting in your body. And when you go to see your doctor, you know exactly what to answer to him about the effects that medicine is making in your health or even if is working at all.
Because there are all types of medicines like those prescribed by your doctor, the counter medicines from the pharmacy or supermarket, complementary medicines, herbal remedies, vitamins and other supplements, knowledge and being smart in recognizing which medicines are good for you and which ingredients they can have, is a really important matter to avoid making a wrong mix up or taking a medicine that is actually avoid another to do the right job for your health.
Knowing the principal and active ingredient
The active ingredient name will identify the chemical in the medicines that is the responsible for creating the effect when is taken. So, having knowledge of such ingredient and/or chemical is another way to be prepared and well informed for your treatment.
Most of the medicines will have a brand name based on the active ingredient or chemical that most manufacturers will include in their products.
This helps a lot, since there are many medicines with the same active ingredient from different manufacturers, and recognize the difference from one to another is very important to be consistent with the one that you are taking and is the one that you like or is better suited for you so far.
Normally, the difference between a medicine from another with the same active ingredient, ingredients and purpose, is a slight change in the formulation, color, taste and packaging.
But the effect will be the same, unless of course there is a specific reason from your doctor of why you should avoid some brands from another’s, and of course the price of the product may vary too in the market.
Take your medicine as instructed
You should always make sure that the medicine you are taking, is being taken as instructed by your doctor, pharmacist or any other professional in the matter like nurses.
And always remember to take the medicine at the instructed time of the day and with the conditions needed to do so (like after going to the bathroom, having a meal, drinking water, and many others).
