Canker sores are small ulcers with a whitish color and are created on the inside of the cheeks, tongue or palate. They are surrounded by a reddened area that, at times, they attribute an appearance similar to cold sores.
In addition to having no relationship, canker sores are not contagious and can be cured more easily than cold sores.
The appearance of canker sores is an indication of the attack of viruses or bacteria in the mouth, although they also tend to appear due to injuries, poor hygiene and the excessive consumption of tobacco.
The truth is that canker sores disappear on their own after several days, and very rarely, cause severe pain or complications. However, the use of natural remedies is always recommended to protect the affected area and hasten its recovery.
Natural remedies to cure canker sores
Although canker sores heal themselves in a few days you can benefit from the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and healing properties of certain natural ingredients to prevent possible infections and accelerate the healing process.
1. Aloe Vera gel
Aloe Vera gel is known to be one of the best natural treatments to treat wounds and ulcers.
Its incredible antibacterial action protects you from infections, in addition the regenerating and moisturizing power will help you heal faster.
Ingredients that you will need:
1 spoonful of aloe Vera gel or 15 gm.
4 drops of tea tree oil, it is completely optional, but if you have it you will not need it.
First, you have to extract a spoonful of aloe Vera gel and, if you prefer, you can mix it with 4 drops of tea tree oil.
Second, you should rub the gel in the canker sores and let it act, it is not necessary to rinse.
You have to repeat this action until canker sores are healed.
2. Baking soda
Baking soda will help neutralize the pH of your mouth and saliva to avoid possible infections in canker sores.
1 small spoonful of baking or 5 gm.
½ cup of warm water or 125 ml.
You must dilute the sodium bicarbonate in the warm water and with the mixture you will swish for 2 or 3 minutes. You have to use it to cure the ulcer.
3. Tea tree oil
This is a completely natural product that has antibacterial, healing and analgesic properties that are perfect for treating canker sores.
4 drops of tea tree oil.
1 tablespoon of water or 5 gm.
You must dilute the tea tree oil in the tablespoon of water.
To apply it you have to use a piece of cotton or swab in the mixture and apply it on the affected area.
You can repeat the application 2 or 3 times a day to get better results.
The horsetail contains anti-inflammatory properties that will favor you in reducing the irritation and pain generated by canker sores.
The infusion of horsetail will help to calm the feeling of inflammation in the skin and, in turn, promotes healing.
1 cup of water or 250 ml.
1 spoonful of horsetail or 10 gm.
First, you must add the horsetail in a cup of water and place it to boil for 5 minutes.
Second, when it is ready you must cover it and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Finally, filter the infusion and use it as a rinse.
To apply, gargle after brushing your teeth.
