Postpartum depression is often related to mothers. But there is a new study that proved that  fathers are more likely to be exposed to it after nine months of their child’s birth. This happens because of the decrease of testosterone.

The same study suggested that the low level of testosterone for a father would affect his wife positively. Mothers whose husbands had lower levels of testosterone are more likely to be affected with depression. They didn’t have many symptoms of depression.

Fathers who have high levels of testosterone however will be exposed to more stress. This will appear in their treatment with their wives. They will become aggressive with them.

They were American and African women. They were low-income mothers. They made this research on those women who had there first child, or the second or third. The fathers also participated in this study. 95 percent of the fathers in this study lived with their partners.

The researchers visited the fathers in this study three times in the two years after the birth. The first visit was after two months for the Child’s birth. The second  visit was after 9 months of the child’s  birth. The third visit was after 15 months of the child’s birth.
