Few scientists from the Shahid Chamran University made an important discovery regarding this. They discovered a new technology of piezoelectric harvester (PEH) for nano-sized devices.
Their report discusses the impact of the small-sized dimensions. They also discussed nonlinear vibration and PEH voltage harvesting technique. If a mechanical stress is applied to piezoelectric materials, then they are able to produce electricity.
Stress due to vibration or other mechanical forces
This kind of technique is used in many devices. Devices like cell phones, ultrasonic transducers use this technology.
To create Piezoelectric Harvester, scientists have applied vibration induced stress upon piezoelectric crystals. The main advantage of this PEH is that they can be used in a device of any size no matter how small.
Conversion of the Energy presents in Nature
Self-sufficient electronic devices use self-sufficient energy resources. Because of this, the use of the piezoelectric material is very important. Moreover, they help us to convert energy. They convert the energy present in nature into an energy that we need.
Macro sized models of piezoelectric sources are an important field of research these days. Scientists have used nonlocal elastic theory to create piezoelectric harvesters.
As a result of this, scientists have already gained great success in this field. Based on the non-local elastic theory, scientists have noticed a nonlinear vibration along with voltage output.
With the help of all these, they have derived a nonlinear equation of motion. Also, with the help of this, they found a way to increase the amount of voltage generation.
If the voltage is greater, then the amplitude of vibration is also greater. As a result of this, the overall generation of energy will also increase.
Goal of nano-sized energy harvester technology
Nanotechnology is at its peak of fame. All micro or nano-sized devices needs self-sufficient energy sources. Devices like MEMs or NEMs needs energy sources based on their size.
Researchers have also discussed the necessity of the use of the piezoelectric system. Micro and nano-sized systems or devices need them for their proper functioning.
Without the piezoelectric system, they are not much useful. The reason behind this is piezoelectric, crystals perform the same for every purpose. It acts as a governing agent.
