Capsulitis is an inflammation that originates/localized in the joint “capsule”, in other words, in all the fibrous tissue that covers any mobile joint, be it fingers, hips, shoulders, etc.

This condition is very common, do not be surprised, especially in athletes.

It is very likely that those people who practice handball, basketball or volleyball have suffered from this typical inflammation in one or several fingers where they are immobilized using a bandage.

Beyond the sports field, it is very common to suffer from capsulitis in the hips and shoulders when reaching a certain age.
Women and men between 50 and 60 years old are undoubtedly the population sector that is most affected by this type of joint problem and in many cases, they see that their life is limited thanks to the pain caused by inflammation.

Why is capsulitis produced?

To better understand what capsulitis is, you have to first know what the joint capsule is. Then, the joint capsule is the membrane that covers all the joints with a very specific purpose: to make it impossible for the bone segments to move.

The joint capsules are located very close to the cartilage and ligaments, thus providing the protection of the joint as the harmony of movement.

When suffering from capsulitis there is no breakage, that is, the tissue has not been torn, displaced, nor is there a fracture in the joint or bone.

You could say that it is not a serious condition, although it does cause lasting pain.

Causes of capsulitis

There is no single origin that determines the emergence of capsulitis. Moreover, sometimes, even the detonators are unknown.
However, among the most common and well-known causes of capsulitis are:

• It is common in women aged 50 and 60 who have reached menopause.
• Rheumatic diseases.
• A traumatic blow.
• Thyroid problems.
• Diabetes.

The pain is located in a specific joint, starting almost always with a stiffness in the joint.
Practically without knowing how it is difficult for people to carry out movements that they used to do naturally, for example: combing their hair, washing their backs, lifting weights, fastening clothes and a long etc.
The pain goes on increasing little by little and can last for weeks, months and years, everything will depend on the origin.
The area that is affected may witness numbness and inflammation.
The recovery of the capsulitis is extremely slow.
Shoulder pain

The frozen shoulder

Within the capsulitis, the well-known “frozen shoulder” is a disorder more than frequent in the elderly and appears thanks to the loss of elasticity of the tissue.
The capsule that surrounds the joint hardens and there is less synovial fluid, consequently, the structure of the joint rubs and inflammation appears.

Common symptoms of frozen shoulder

The pain of the frozen shoulder is usually felt during the night. Patients with this condition have a hard time sleeping on their side.
Later, the nocturnal discomfort begins to make an appearance during the daily tasks: putting the belt on the car, combing hair and a long etcetera.
Progressively, the pain becomes more intense and increases with changes in temperature, change of season, stress, vibrations, among others …
The pain does not usually disappear with analgesics. Inclusive, the frozen shoulder can be a strong ailment or disappear by itself after a few years.
