As there are several physical differences between men and women, there are also mental differences. According to a new study at the National Academy of Sciences, there are physical, social, cultural, and mental differences between women and men. The study involved 1,000 young adults aged between 18 to 22 years. So, why men and women have different types of brains.

Overview

As studies say, the mental differences between men and women is considered as a result of different manners of neurons (nerve cells) and nervous tissue within the brain.

But you should not mix between “brain” and “mind”. Mind refers to thinking, consciousness and unconsciousness processes, while the brain is an organ inside your skull (physical component) which is composed of neurons.

The different patterns of neurons of the brain

As the person undergoes puberty, there will be a physical and sexual development depend on his gender. Also, there will be mental developments which depends basically on the person’s gender and exist forever (until the person dies).

The studies showed that the patterns in females are more left to right oriented, in contrast, they are front-to-back oriented in men. However, the relationship between the patterns and the gender is not very clear.

The researchers think that; the arrangement causes specific, coordinated actions and perceptions as the areas of the brain, which responsible for these actions are more developed in gender than the other one.

For example, the left-right oriented brains have more functional emotional and spontaneous regions. Hence, the women are more sensitive than men.

So far, the recent studies still cannot specify whether the evaluation occurred spontaneously, or it influenced the brain development according to culture.

Another recent study showed differences between resting brain activity in women and in men. It suggests that the resting state of the brain means, the brain does not respond to direct tasks but it’s still active.

By scanning the brain at rest, they found a complex pattern, indicating that many differences between men and women in behavior may result from the activity of the resting brain.
